As a part of its strong commitment to social responsibility, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Nagpur, organised a specialized cancer screening on February 15, 2026, in a remote village of Nakshi in Bhivapur tehsil of Nagpur District. During the camp, 62 persons were screened and 4 were diagnosed as suspected cases and promptly referred to NCI, Nagpur, for free evaluation and further management.
The screening was conducted as part of a comprehensive healthcare camp organised through a collaborative initiative by the Sub-committee of High Court Legal Services, Nagpur, District Legal Services Authority, Nagpur, District Administration, and Tehsil Legal Services Authority, Bhivapur. The camp underscored the power of public-private partnerships in bridging healthcare gaps in rural parts, empowering residents with early detection and preventive education. The camp marked a significant step forward in NCI’s mission of building a cancer-free society and ensuring that no individual is left behind in the fight against cancer.
Hon’ble Justice Anil Kilor (Bombay High Court), Hon’ble Justice Praful Khubalkar (Bombay High Court) and Hon’ble Principal District & Sessions Judge, Dinesh Surana, were the chief guests at the inaugural event. Nagpur District Collector, Vipin Itankar, Nagpur District SP, Harsh Poddar and Nagpur ZP CEO, Vinayak Mahamuni were the special guests.
Leading the NCI medical team were -- Dr. Pawan Argade, Dr. Sunita Sawankar, and Dr. Shubhangi Somalkar. Equipped with state-of-the-art mobile clinical vans featuring advanced diagnostic facilities for mammography, gynaecological check-ups, and oral examinations, the team delivered comprehensive cancer screening services directly at the village site.
The NCI team conducted awareness sessions for school and college students on the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and provided cancer awareness training to local ASHA workers.
