Department Of Psychiatry & Psycho Oncology

Psycho-oncology deals with emotional, psychosocial and behavioural issues of patients and their family members that are associated with cancer development, course and outcome of the disease. Psychological issues can be present in almost all the patients of cancer from the stage of diagnosis and may last even after the cure of cancer. If not detected and treated early, it may result in to significant psychiatric disorders hampering the recovery from cancer and impair the quality of life.

Our vision is to provide the comprehensive psychological care to cancer patients, help them & their family members fight the cancer with positive attitude and improve their quality of life.

Psycho-oncology services have been made available to the patients and relatives from the very first day of the institutional working. Thousands of patients have been screened and provided psychological or psychiatric help from experts whenever needed. Our services have helped patients and relatives to face and overcome the stress related to illness, side effects of treatment and other social and emotional problems in more positive way. Around 50% of the cancer patients can suffer psychiatric disorders and timely intervention can improve the cancer care, prognosis and quality of life of these patients. The goal of the Psycho-oncology department is to provide quality care for patients’ psychological/psychiatric problems in the context of cancer.
