Dr. Vijay Darda, Chairman of the Lokmat Media Group and former Rajya Sabha MP, visited the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Nagpur, on Wednesday. Renowned for his significant contributions across diverse fields—including journalism, politics, commerce and industry, social work, education, sports, art, and healthcare, Dr. Darda has been a valued well-wisher of the National Cancer Institute.
Shailesh Joglekar, General Secretary and CEO of NCI, Dr Anand Pathak, Medical Director and Anand Aurangabadkar, Treasurer, briefed Dr. Darda on the establishment and functioning of India’s comprehensive cancer care centre.
An award-winning editor and columnist, Dr. Darda shared his vision for the healthcare sector and expressed deep appreciation for NCI’s commitment to providing advanced, affordable cancer treatment to all, irrespective of their social or economic background.
“When I came to NCI, I felt as though I had entered a temple where living Gods serve humanity. Here, there is no discrimination in the treatment of cancer patients. Such an institution can only be built when people work like soldiers on a mission, driven by dedication and compassion. I can confidently say that NCI is among the best, as I have seen several cancer hospitals around the world,” said Dr. Darda, appreciating the NCI management.
On this occasion, Dr. Darda also announced his full support for establishing a ‘Proton Therapy’ facility at NCI. “I am truly happy today to witness such a committed team at work. I pray for the happiness and well-being of everyone in this temple of humanity,” he added.
