A pleasant winter morning at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Nagpur, turned memorable when an unexpected yet heartwarming surprise walked through its doors. Padma Shri Dr. Prakash Amte and Dr. Mandakini Amte — renowned for their lifelong dedication to social service and medical care through the Lok Biradari Prakalp at Hemalkasa — fulfilled a promise they had once made to an NCI staff member by visiting the institute.
During their morning walk from their overnight stay at Ashokvan in Jamtha, the distinguished doctor couple quietly entered the NCI campus. As word of their surprise visit spread, a wave of excitement, admiration, and joy swept across the institute’s staff. NCI’s General Secretary & CEO, Shri Shailesh Joglekar, and Medical Director, Dr. Anand Pathak, welcomed the esteemed guests and guided them through the facility.
Deeply impressed by the charitable work being carried out at NCI, Dr. Prakash and Dr. Mandakini Amte expressed keen interest in referring underprivileged cancer patients from their region to the institute for advanced treatment.
