Maverick Marathi theatre superstar Prashant Damle, who holds multiple world records for the highest number of theatrical performances, took time out of his busy Vidarbha tour to visit the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Nagpur, on Monday.
During his visit, Damle toured the facility to understand NCI’s vision of developing the institute into one of India’s foremost cancer care centres—committed to serving all sections of society and providing charitable assistance to patients in need.
Renowned for his humanitarian work, particularly for backstage artists and the underprivileged within the theatre fraternity, Damle appealed to the public to shed their fear of cancer. Emphasising that cancer can often be prevented through a healthy lifestyle and early detection, he urged people to undergo regular check-ups by cancer specialists to help defeat the disease.
Damle said that NCI’s flagship programme of cost-free screening for women – Ayushmati – was the best way for women aged above 40 to get themselves examined for cancer, early detection and early treatment.
Damle was warmly welcomed by NCI General Secretary and CEO Shailesh Joglekar and Medical Director Dr Anand Pathak, who briefed him on the wide range of services offered by the institute. They highlighted NCI’s rapid emergence as one of the finest cancer hospitals in India, dedicated to excellence in treatment, care, and compassion.
