NCI STARTS SURGICAL ONCOLOGY FACILITY in the heart of City for easy access to needy cancer patients

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) inaugurated new additional Surgical Oncology Facility at it’s city center in Dharampeth “Sita Ram Smruti”, west high court road, Laxmi Bhavan Square. The humongous cancer burden & ever growing patient requirement in this region accelerated the need for such advanced facilities at NCI.

The facilities available at NCI City centre includes an OT Complex – comprises Two Modular Operation Theatres, Anaesthesia work stations with entropy monitoring, CSSD with ETO sterilizer, Ultrasonic washer & Flash sterilizer, an Intra Operative Frozen Section facility. Also a Seven bedded Surgical Intensive Care Unit with dialysis facility & ventilators is equipped to serve the post-surgical needs of residents of Vidarbha region, informed Dr Anand Pathak – Medical Director of National Cancer Institute.

The eminent Surgeon of Vidarbha Dr. Arvind Joglekar lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of the facility on Sunday, February 25, 2018 - 10:00 Hrs at Level 3, 293, “Sita-Ram Smruti”, West High Court Road, Dharampeth, Nagpur, in the  august presence of medical stalwarts like Dr. B J Subhedar, Dr. S. Dasgupta, director, RST, Dr. Surojit Hajra senior surgeon, Dr. Jagdish Hedaoo, prof. surgery at GMC, Adv Sunil Manohar president of Dr. Abaji Thatte Trust that governs NCI, Shaileshji Joglekar, secretary of the trust and Anand Aurangabadkar, treasurer of the trust.

The surgical team headed by Dr. Gopal Gurjar offers organ specific cancer surgeries and the team includes Dr. Abhishek Vaidya, Dr. Shilpi Sharma both head neck cancer surgeons, Dr. Abhishek Mitra, GI cancer surgeon, Dr. Tanushree Jain Gynec surgeon, Dr. Sumit Gathe and Dr. Shailesh Nisal Reconstructive surgeon.

The anesthesia team is led by Head Dr. Vivek Bhargava and includes Dr. Sachin Jambhorkar, Dr. Sarita Joglekar, Dr. Swapna Bhure, Dr. Anuja Jain, Dr. Himanshu Marathe.

Frozen section facilities which are needed for successful cancer surgeries was inaugurated by Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal Deputy Director of health services, Maharashtra. The facility is headed by Dr. Meena Pangarkar and includes Dr. Radhika Pagey, Dr. Kishor Deshpande, Dr. Meenal Khare, Dr. Gauri Hardas, Dr. Shweta Deulkar.

Patients can visit NCI – City Centre at Dharampeth to receive comprehensive cancer care services such as Medical oncology, Surgical Oncology, Critical Care & Medicine, Pharmacy services, Palliative Care and Rehabilitation. Additionally, services like Radiation Therapy, Radiology & Laboratory Medicine are already available at NCI – Jamtha Centre, said Shailesh Joglekar – Secretary, Dr Aabaji Thatte Seva Aur Anusandhan Santha – Trust that operates NCI.
