The festival of rakshabandhan is celebrated on Narali Pornima, which coincided with Independence Day, this year. NCI celebrated the festival with children in its paediatric ward amidst an energetic and festive mood.
The children who are undergoing treatment for cancer and their parents are always burdened with the medications, hospital visits, dietary restrictions, etc. The event was a respite for them as they enjoyed making craft toys and the rakhis all by themselves on the eve of the occasion.
The doctors and care-givers tied Raksha Sutra to these children as a mark of protection and promised to always protect and support them in the fight against cancer.
National Cancer Institute has been developing paediatric oncology with a special focus due to the increasing incidence of cancer among children. NCI has a dedicated, specialized and well-quipped 23-bedded paediatric ward including 3 Paediatric ICUs that caters to children with cancer of the age group 0-14 years. It is one of the largest in central India region.
